Hello Friend

Reyna has been teaching public vinyasa and yin classes to adults, teens and tweens for 7 years now. She is the creator of Body Kind Movement, and has been feature in Yoga Journal & Yoga International. Reyna teaches live classes via Zoom, is writing a book, and is currently working on creating small Body Kind Yoga training programs for other Yoga Asana teachers.

I’m Reyna and I’m glad you’re here. I’ve been practicing yoga for a while & teaching also for a while, and more recently have created Body Kind Movement & Yoga. I have felt challenged by Western Yoga and the thin, white, wealthy archetype that is so frequently synonymous with “Yoga.” I felt erased, underappreciated, undervalued, underestimated, unseen and inadequate in Yoga spaces, and yet I kept coming back. I knew there was something there for me. I began to welcome myself and my practice welcomed me back. I found teachers who saw me, guided me, and held space in a way that allowed me to begin to explore Yoga beyond Asana. The Yoga practice has softened the hard shell I built to protect myself from this messy world and then allowed me to steel myself once again, but this time with control, more compassion, and more curiosity. Through Yoga I have learned to surrender, to sustain, and to step into myself daily.

Along with my practice, I value community, representation, and the importance of being seen and heard. I love television, movies, and eating pints of ice cream. I truly believe in the power of crying and do so often and unapologetically. I’m working on it, all of it, it being me, and will continue to do so for as long as I’m able.

Thank you for being here, for seeing me and for doing your best. Emotions and the world often move fast for me, and while I cannot confidently say if I’m “good” or “not-so good” right now, I can confirm that I am okay; I hope you’re okay too.
